Check out the neighbours before taking out a tracker mortgage

Date: Thu, 28 Apr 2005

Househunters should be as interested in their potential neighbours as the property itself, a new survey claims.

Website propertyfinder.com states that problem neighbours should be definite consideration before taking out a tracker mortgage and signing for a new property.

Their survey found that 90 per cent of respondents voted squatters as the worst neighbours, followed by students (63 per cent) and families with teenagers (26 per cent).

Young flat sharers came fourth in the nightmare neighbours poll, while childless couples, pensioners and single people were voted the favourites.

Asked what most turned them off about neighbours, those quizzed cited loud parties, domestic arguments and loud love-making (24 per cent).

Nicholas Leeming of propertyfinder.com concluded: "For people selling their home, the neighbours can make the difference between a quick sale and a prolonged process and have a material affect on what price sellers can achieve for their property."
