Be generous with life insurance

Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2006

Research shows that many people often leave money to charities in their wills but can neglect family members by not purchasing life insurance cover.

A study by GfK NOP discovered that 68 per cent of people plan to give a cash amount to their favourite charity when they die. The survey will form part of a campaign by Remember a Charity to help encourage people to support more good causes.

Jonathan Parris, director of Remember a Charity, said: "Charitable legacies are the largest single source of voluntary income to UK charities, raising over £1.3 billion of vital income for good causes each year."

He added: "With greater awareness around how easy it is to support your favourite charity in this way and just what a difference it can make, we hope to see this figure rise substantially over the coming years."

However, some people could be forgetting to ensure that loved ones are taken care of adequately when they die. Shopping around for the best deal of life insurance cover could help ensure a generous income for loved ones as well as providing a donation to a favourite charitable cause.
