Young Drivers warned about uninsured car campaign

Mon, 19 Jun 2006

Young Drivers in the Midlands are being advised to make sure they don't drive without a valid insurance policy otherwise they could face legal action.

Police in Handsworth, West Midlands, have launched a new campaign aimed at catching those motorists who drive without any Car Insurance.

Department for Transport figures suggest that one in 20 motorists on UK roads do not have a valid insurance policy – meaning that other road users are forced to pay an extra £30 on annual premiums to cover such drivers.

PC Andrew Webber of the road policing unit explained: "Many unlicensed vehicles also have no insurance, no MOT certificates and are often committing other road safety offences."

"Their removal from the streets will have a direct impact on road safety and will improve the quality of life for people living in the area," he added.

During Operation Warrior, West Midlands Police will also be appealing to members of the public to report the details of any cars without tax and Motor Insurance policies.
