Young Drivers are being warned that being behind the wheel whilst under the influence of drugs could result in death.
Car Insurance provider Zurich estimates that the number of victims of drug driving has increased by 600 per cent over the past two decades and could be a very widespread problem on UK roads.
Nearly 20 per cent of those who have died on the road have been found to have taken illegal drugs but prescribed drugs can also have serious influences on Young Drivers' abilities.
Maria Wyatt, a spokesperson for Zurich Insurance, said: "Driving under the influence of drugs has become a serious concern for our road safety, as it is accepted to be contributing to a growing number of accidents."
"We also recommend that those people who are on prescribed medication should consult their doctor before getting behind the wheel of a car," she added.
Zurich is urging Young Drivers to call the police if they suspect a friend or relative is driving whilst under the influence of drugs.
