Young Drivers are often car slobs

Wed, 05 Apr 2006

Many Young Drivers treat their cars like rubbish skips, according to new research.

A survey commissioned by Kia Motors discovered that nine million UK motorists do not keep their car in a tidy condition, with 35 per cent admitting they like it that way and only clean it out twice a year.

Dirty clothes can be found in 38 per cent of people's cars, whilst 31 per cent are happy to discard empty sweet packets and half-eaten sandwiches and nine per cent regularly let their in-car ashtrays overflow with cigarette butts.

Surprisingly men actually clean out their vehicle more than women, with 44 per cent of males having a monthly clearout compared to 38 per cent of female drivers.

However, the forthcoming National Spring Cleaning Week could encourage some Young Drivers to consider tidying up their car, especially if they share the car with a parent.

Paul Williams, managing director of Kia Motors said: "As a nation, we’re known for being 'house proud' but we’re obviously not very 'car proud'. It seems that our motors are showing up the messier side to the great British public! What better time to clear up the clutter than during National Spring Cleaning Week."
