The colder weather can mean an increase in some motorists' Car Insurance premiums because of the greater chance of being involved in a collision.
Many motorists are worried about driving on UK roads during adverse weather conditions because they fear some road users are not good enough at driving, claims driving school BSM.
In particular, many parents are concerned that their newly qualified teenagers may be too inexperienced to drive this winter, reports Auto Express.
The study discovered that five per cent of parents admitted to hiding the keys and immobilising their child's vehicle, whilst 20 per cent would rather cover the cost of a taxi, with 25 per cent admitting they have changed their own plans in order to ensure they are available to drive their offspring around.
"Facing new scenarios in the first 12 months of driving can be daunting at the best of times, but add to that the heavy Christmas traffic and what is predicted to be the worst winter weather in Britain for a decade, and everyday situations can become potentially life-threatening," said a spokesman for BSM.
