The growing number of vehicle vandals could be increasing the cost of Car Insurance premiums.
Official government statistics suggest that 457,451 motorists in England and Wales had their cars damaged by vandals over the past 12 months. However, a new survey from mail order specialist Carparts-direct.co.uk suggests that the real figure may be as much as three times higher.
Many drivers choose not to report the vandalism to the police because they feel it is highly unlikely that anyone will be prosecuted for the incident or that it could mean a rise in their Car Insurance costs.
An alternative to paying higher Car Insurance premiums could be taking a few simple steps to ensure that cars do not attract the casual vandal.
Carpages quoted Mark Cornwall of Carparts-direct.co.uk, saying: "We have customers who use our car covers whilst parked up at work, at railway stations and while shopping. Owners will cover their car when parked on the drive overnight, it keeps the car clean, prevents frost and it discourages thieves and acts as a deterrent to vandalism."
