A new trend in Motor Insurance could help lower the cost of young Women's Car Insurance cover.
Major insurance provider Direct Line is to take into account the driving history of named drivers rather than just the main policyholder meaning that second (often younger) drivers will be able to build up no claims discounts.
The insurer estimates that around 18 million drivers are named on other people's policies and are therefore forced to take out their own cover if they wish to build up a driving history forcing up the cost of Women's Car Insurance premiums significantly.
Emma Holyer, of Direct Line, said: "No other insurer recognises named drivers in this way. It is a major step forward for those motorists who have been paying over the odds for their insurance.
She added: "We don't think it is fair that named drivers who have experience behind the wheel cannot benefit from their safe driving experience."
