Motorbike popularity pushes scooter insurance sales

Wed, 25 May 2005

The continuing popularity of motorbikes is helping to boost scooter insurance sales.

Commuters are increasingly viewing bikes and scooters as a way of avoiding congestion and improving fuel economy.

This year's April sales of motorbikes rose by seven per cent, compared to the same period in 2004. Meanwhile, car sales are continuing to fall with new car registrations falling by four per cent.

The UK's top selling scooter at the moment remains the Gilera Nexus 500 and retails for less than £5,000, offers 40bhp and had belongs to a low insurance group.
