Extra hour could mean extra danger for Car Insurance holders

Fri, 28 Oct 2005

The clocks go back this weekend and while most people will be celebrating the extra hour in bed, motorists are being warned of the possibility of extra danger on the roads.

Leading insurers are advising UK Car Insurance holders that as darker evenings usher in the start of what is expected to be one of the coldest winters on record, motorists should take extra precautions to stay safe on the roads.

This includes checking the brakes and lights regularly, topping up oil, water and anti-freeze and checking tyre pressure and tread depth regularly.

Phil Loney, managing director of a leading Motor Insurance company commented: "If there's one day where caution on the roads is an absolute must, it's the day the clocks change.

"It might sound obvious that darker evenings mean more dangerous driving conditions, but the importance of taking special care on the roads at this time of the year cannot be underestimated."
