Women drivers could be failing to achieve equality when it comes to buying and insuring their car.
A new study by What Car? magazine has concluded that female motorists are being mistreated by the industry.
A series of mystery shoppers were used to discover that car dealerships often have a very different attitude when a potential buyer is female. The magazine's study discovered that women were asked to pay an average of £500 more then their single male counterparts.
However, many car retailers are failing to realise that women make 80 per cent of the final decision when it comes to purchasing a new family vehicle, so they could be choosing to mislead the most important person in the deal and missing out on a sale.
A customer survey conducted by specialised Women's Car Insurance company, CoverGirl Car Insurance, also revealed that many women feel intimidated when entering the male dominated world of repairs and MOTs with 70 per cent of women failing to trust the service they received.
"Always do your research, find out how much a car costs and also find out the deals available. If you're one step ahead of the salesman you can call his bluff," said Craig Handy from CoverGirl.
The same advice can be applied to obtaining insurance cover and female drivers should always shop around for the best premiums.
