Don't overspend on Car Insurance

Mon, 28 Nov 2005

High street spending can be out of control but motorists are being advised to make sure they don't overspend on Car Insurance cover.

Research from online bank Egg reveals that UK shoppers spend £300 million more than they think every day. Three out of five people regularly end up spending more than their planned when visiting the high street and often underestimate their total bills.

Egg reveals that the average shopper spent £85.30; however, when asked by researchers they estimated an average of just £78.90.

"Keeping track of our money is hard enough at the best of times but with all the distractions of the high street it seems that it is nearly impossible to do so when out shopping," said Mark Nancarrow, chief financial officer at Egg.

"Christmas is the most expensive time of year for the majority of people and there is increased pressure to spend all round. It is better to budget now than face a financial hangover in the new year."

Drivers looking for good deals on Car Insurance are being advised to make sure they shop around for the best value-for-money policy and ensure they factor in any hidden extras such as high excesses or legal cover.
