Consumers are not always aware of how much they are really spending, according to new research.
A study by credit card company Egg shows that one in two people are unclear how much spending on credit cards is costing them. The average consumer believes they spend around £418 a month using plastic, however, industry figures suggest that the true amount could be around £775 a month.
Therefore consumers are being urged to ensure they check that financial products, including Car Insurance, do actually offer value for money and realise that paying over the internet via plastic still counts as spending.
"Plastic is clearly the choice of the UK consumer when it comes to spending, but our Egg Money research clearly indicates that the increasingly complex nature of our finances means it is often hard to keep track of how much we are spending," said Andy Deller, Eggs chief marketing officer.
