The growing number of "frosting attacks" is highlighting the need for Car Insurance.
So-called "frosting" occurs when drivers leave their cars running unattended in order to defrost their vehicles on winter mornings leaving the keys in the ignition makes the vehicles an easy target for opportunist thieves.
Research from Sainsbury's Bank discovered that over the past five years, a total of 121,730 households have been the victim of a 'frosting' crime and this winter could see a further 24,346 cars stolen from driveways.
Richard Clark, Car Insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank, said: "Many thieves are opportunists and could strike if you leave your car running unattended.
"We are concerned that the predicted extreme cold weather will result in more people taking the risk and becoming victims of frosting," he added.
Motorists are advised to make sure they do not leave their vehicle unattended and double-check their Car Insurance policy is up-to-date just in case.
