The sale season doesn't just apply to the high street and female motorists could be savvy when shopping for Women's Car Insurance cover.
A study by the American Express Nectar Credit Card shows that Britain has a strong number of so-called smart shoppers who really know a bargain when they see one.
The survey discovered that 66 per cent of shoppers hitting the sales will only buy an item if they need it, 63 per cent will do research to find the best price, whilst 69 per cent of UK consumers use loyalty cards to ensure they save money.
"Retail therapy isn't what we once thought it was - shoppers are now enjoying the thrill of finding the perfect purchase through smart bargain shopping," said Katherine Whitton, vice president and head of UK product management at American Express.
She added: "Spending time finding the perfect purchase means the majority of Brits are being better rewarded for their shopping and enabling them to get there faster is what the new American Express Nectar Credit Card is all about."
