Critical Illness

How do you decide on the term of your cover?

The term of your critical illness insurance cover will depend on a number of factors including what or who you are trying to protect.

For example, if you want to ensure that your mortgage is repaid should you suffer a critical illness then the term of the policy should match the term of your mortgage.

If you want to ensure that your family would have sufficient funds to enable you all to lead as normal life as possible, then a policy whose term is as long as your children are likely to be dependent upon you would be advisable.

You may want to protect yourself or your partner whilst you are working, and therefore a critical illness policy running until you retirement may be the most suitable.

It may be that you would be concerned about being diagnosed with a critical illness at any time in your life, which would mean that a Whole of Life policy would probably be the most appropriate for you. This type of policy will continue to cover the policyholder until they die, or stop paying the premiums. This means that at any age if you are diagnosed with a critical illness or were too ill to look after yourself then the benefit from such a policy would be paid.
