Permanent health insurance.

If I have a bad back can I still get cover?

Permanent health insurance would allow you to be able to obtain such cover in these circumstances. However, you would have to declare this when taking out the cover this would likely mean that there would be an exclusion on your policy. This would mean that the provider of the insurance policy would probably not pay out on a claim if it is directly attributable to the existing back problem. They will pay out for other unrelated conditions. The reason for this is that back problems account for most of the long term sickness claims made on Income protection policies.

Some providers will cover the back problem, and not make any exclusion on the policy at all, however they will probably add a loading to your premium, as they see you as a higher risk individual than average, and more likely to make a claim on the policy. This is because if you have had problems with you back in the past, then your back may have been weakened, and anything simple in the future could put it out again i.e. lifting items or any minor fall.
