Young Drivers are being encouraged not to be distracted by road accidents otherwise they could find themselves involved in a collision.

Breakdown company Green Flag is hoping to persuade drivers not to take their eyes of the road in front in order to look at a roadside distraction. Research by the company found that one in ten drivers admit they have stopped their vehicle in order to look at a crash scene, with one in 20 being involved in a collision because of their nosiness.

The survey of 3,000 motorists found that males are the worst culprits for so-called "rubbernecking", with twice as many men looking at accidents compared to women.

A spokesman for Green Flag said: "This survey is a real eye-opener. It might be tempting to have a quick look out the window at an accident but it is vital for safety that drivers keep their eyes on the road at all times."

He added: You are only adding to the initial problem by slowing down and causing more of an obstruction to other road users by slowing down."
