Wrong road surfaces could increase the need to have sufficient Motor Insurance cover.

Following a number of accidents on a 200-metre stretch in Staffordshire, tests have revealed that the surface of the road could have been the main cause.

The surface of Wodehouse Lane, Wombourne revealed that it was not capable of providing enough grip to cars and maybe have caused some vehicles to slide.

Jeremy Herbert, spokesman for the Staffordshire Road Safety Unit, said the road had had several resurfaces over the last two years.

"During the first half of 2005 the road material was tested after three slight injuries and one serious accident but there was found to be no indication that the material was abnormal," said Mr Herbert.

He added: "Then after a spate of accidents during the last few months of 2005, two resulting in injuries, more testing revealed the road surface material was not performing as expected."

The discovery of the poor road surface highlights the need of drivers to ensure that they have comprehensive Motor Insurance policies that cover more than third-party, fire and theft.
