The average driver is likely to be involved in nine accidents during their motoring lifetime, according to new research.
The study by Churchill Insurance stresses that Motor Insurance is vital in covering the cost of these accidents - especially if the other driver is uninsured.
A total of 3.9 million motoring accidents occur each year in the UK - the equivalent of 7.4 accidents occurring every minute. However, there has been a general decline in the number of drivers taking out comprehensive Motor Insurance cover, even though they are likely to be involved in an accident every six and a half years.
Darren McCauley, head of Car Insurance at Churchill Insurance, said: "Car accidents are one of the less enjoyable things about being a driver, but it's inevitable that you will need to make a claim at some point."
He added that many drivers are "surprised" at how often they are forced to claim on their Motor Insurance policy and regret not initially taking out comprehensive cover.
