Taking care of valuable items while travelling.
1. Take as much on board with you as possible. Most UK airports will allow one piece of carry-on luggage, as well as a shoulder bag.
2. Label all luggage clearly inside and out - using the airline's tags wherever possible. Be sure to remove old airline routing tags and labels. Write your destination phone number and address - as well as a phone number of someone in the UK.
3. Lock your luggage securely. Take any valuables, including cameras and jewellery, on board with you.
4. Make a detailed list of the contents of your bags.
If you do lose your bags
1. Search the other carousels for your bag. Sometimes bags are placed on the wrong carousel by mistake.
2. Look for bags that resemble yours in shape and colour and are left on their own; another traveller could have mistaken your luggage and gone off with yours.
3. Immediately inform the lost baggage counter of your carrier. These are usually located right next to the luggage carousels. Produce your luggage tags and your itinerary for the attendant to copy. Keep the originals.
Tips for motorists during summer.
1. If you intend to use your car abroad for more than 90 days or in any non EU country, please notify Endsleigh at least two weeks prior to your departure so that your cover can be extended for the appropriate period.
2. If you are driving abroad, make sure you know the laws of the country you’re visiting.
3. If you hire a car on holiday, never leave your passport with the hire company even if they demand it.
4. When driving abroad make sure you carry ID with you at all times as police on the continent will often insist you produce it.
5. If you are going away be careful not to overload your car, make sure you can see out of all the windows and remember to take a map even if you have a satellite navigation system!
