Endsleigh Insurance Services Ltd recognises the need for our website to be accessible to all user groups, including those with visual, audio, or motor impairments. Endsleigh are aware of the considerations, and have implemented a number of accessibility features on our website in order to enhance accessibility.
Features have been put in place to improve navigation for text only browsers, screen readers, other assistive devices, and users of keyboard navigation.
Browsers
This website is built to the XHTML 1.0 transitional document type definition and CSS 1.0 / 2.0 standards, as governed by the W3 Organisation – www.w3.org. Consequently the website will function and look as intended in browsers that support these standards.
The most popular of the standards compliance browsers are:
-
Firefox 1.0 +
-
Internet Explorer 7.0+
-
Netscape 7.0 +
-
Google Chrome 2..0+
-
Safari +
-
Opera 9+
Structured Semantic Markup
The use of structured semantic markup ensures that the content of each page is readable and clearly structured without any styling applied. This approach allows assistive devices to identify meaningful headings, navigation and content sections contained within the pages.
Headings and menus
Menus used for navigation are marked up as XHTML lists. This ensures the number of links in the list can be read out and can be skipped and navigated.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for page layout
The site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. Table markup is not be used for page layouts.
Images
Images used in this site include a descriptive alt attributes. Where we have used a graphic purely as a decorative element the image alt property will contain an empty alt attribute.
Font sizes
Most modern web browsers will allow the user to zoom the page size. A relative font size is used to ensure users may increase and decrease the font size of each web page through their browser preference.
Forms
Labels are used to assist the accessibility of form fields this makes forms generally easier to use. All forms follow a logical tab sequence to enhance navigation.
Tables
Tables are used to display tabular data, and are correctly structured to allow screen readers to render them properly. Tables are not used for page layout on this site.
Colours
We have been mindful of the site's font and background colour combinations to ensure that all information is still clear.
Links
Linking text has been written to make sense out of context. Where appropriate, links have title attributes which will describe the link in greater detail.
Scripting
While there are areas on the public facing website where JavaScript is used to improve usability, page functionality and processes are still accessible and usable if JavaScript is disabled or unavailable.
